About

How do corporate workers negotiate identity? What discursive resources to professional workers draw upon to make sense of their relationship with work? How does work shape our understanding of self, family, and community? These are a few of the questions that drive my research in Organizational Communication.

As a fourth year doctoral candidate at the University of Colorado, at Boulder, I investigate these broad questions through qualitative research on bereaved employees construct an experience of grief. Theoretically, I am driven by critical and feminist commitments. These perspectives direct my attention toward the subtle ways that meanings are reproduced and the discursive practices which enable dominant interests to obscure alternative ways of being and making meaning at work.

I earned my Master's degree from the University of the Pacific in Communication and my Bachelor's degree from the University of the Pacific in Journalism and English. I am teaching Organizational Communication this semester.  You can reach me at janell.bauer@colorado.edu
